  1. A very fine podcast – but I am so sorry to hear about all this. I am not claiming that all my doctoral students think that I am a wonderful supervisor – but I do hope Karin Bodewits’ experiences are not too common.

  2. Can relate to that, even if I don’t do my PH.D (yet) and I’m just at my masters currently. But some of her fears and experiences I already made or got to know myself. Sometimes Science can be very demotivating and humiliating. You ask yourself if that was really a good choice you made, you ask yourself if you are just incompetent and don’t have the guts or if the system you are working in is just deeply flawed. I had already 2 depressive episodes that were not entirely because of my scientific failures, but it certainly played into that. When you hear then from colleagues or supervisors you are worthless, that sends your confidence down the drain as well.
